Winter Park, Florida and the surrounding Chain of Lakes was founded as a resort destination by wealthy industrialists before the turn of the 20th century. It was the first centrally planned community in Florida.

The Lakes charm all began in 1858 with David Mizell's 8 acre lakefront homestead between Lake Virginia, Mizell, and Berry.
