Windermere Among the Lakes

Designated Outstanding Florida Waters in 1983. Today the Butler Chain of Lakes in Winderemere, Florida is one of the few clean water systems left in Central Florida.

There are two stories of the naming of Windermere. World traveler, Dr. Stanley Scott was said to have named the town in 1881 after the lake area in England. However, it is also noted that John Dawe also named Windermere after the same area in England when laying out the town in 1887. Anyone have the real story?
